Countdown

An ever growing list of deployment frustrations....

  • Feedback on the phone when you are trying to have a conversation about nothing.
  • The conversation is about nothing because you can't think of anything that seems even remotely important when hubs is in a warzone.
  • Having to explain where he is or when you last talked to him a thousand times to different people all day long when all you really want to do is not think about it for a few minutes.
  • Becoming an expert in the communications industry for international calling.
  • People think you're joking when you tell them you've had enough.
  • Picking up the phone to text or call when something cool happens only to realize, they won't get it.
  • Balancing the checkbook only to check later and realize they took out more.
  • Trying to find the perfect thing to send him, find it, send it, only to have him ask for something literally right after the package is mailed.
  • Doing laundry and finding some of his clothes he wore while he was home and smelling them in hopes to get the last whiff of him before you wash it away.
  • Realizing that you are every bit a girl even when you try to be so darn tough.
  • Constantly doing the math in your head every time you look at your clock to figure out what time it is over there.

soon, those things will be second nature. practically, decide on an amount that each of you will take out every week/two weeks/payday...whatever you decide. then you know how much to deduct and when. soon, the newness of your situation will wear off with your friends and family and you can set limits on them. "I'll let you know when I hear from him, please don't ask otherwise". otherwise you'll go bananas. and keep a shirt of his in a plastic bag, to sniff when you are down (the pillow case works too) tell him that you are mailing on a certain day every week, he'll learn to ask for something prior, or wait for the next mailing date. routine is important. You'll get yours set...

ooh the checkbook one is a good one. that irritates me to no end. we set up another little account and keep a couple hundred in it for him to get via atm or at the px so he would stop wrecking havoc on our main account. it was a life saver, one less thing for me to worry about.

soon enough you fall into a routine, life becomes almost normal and you find one day passing into another. hang in there, youll get thru, you both will.

trying - that's a superb idea, the separate accounts. We did the "allowance" thing, each of us pulled so much out per pay period, that was just for each person to spend, no questions asked. But yeah, one less thing to keep track of, worry about, and quite frankly, get pissed at him about.
